Civil Rights in America

This month, Footnote and Gannett are launching a new HistoryBeat site focusing on Civil Rights in America.
The site includes current and historical articles from Gannett newspapers, information from investigations by The Clarion-Ledger's Jerry Michell and archives of several 1960s newspapers.

There are several ways that site visitors can get involved. You can share your own civil rights stories, memories and photos, create and upload a video interview of someone's involvement in the civil rights movement, or check a list of FBI "cold cases" to see if you can help with the investigation.

While poking around some of the newspapers, I came across this 1963 Jackson Daily News story:
"White Man Draws $100 Fine, Jail For Attacking Agitator" - 1 June 1963
Apparently blocking the sidewalk is 5x more serious than attacking a man.
